What Is
?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" It is a format for distributing and gathering content from sources across the Web, including newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Web publishers use RSS to easily create and distribute news feeds that include links, headlines, and summaries.
RSS feeds are streams of data that offer a list of articles on a site or section
of a site and update whenever new, relevant information appears online. Through
the use of a newsreader or Live Bookmark that processes
feeds, you can view
headlines and article excerpts from multiple sources, all in one place.
More About
There are many stand-alone software programs used to collect, update, and
display
feeds. Many of these are free. Some work from within your web
browser or email client, while other work on your desktop. News aggregators
(also called news readers) download and display
feeds for you, once you've
set up the site you'd like to receive updates from, making it possible for you
to view and 'click' the articles / content you choose to read entirely at that
time.
Many free and commercial news aggregators are available for download. Two examples of these are:
You may also browse a Directory Listing of NewsReaders to find an aggregator which best suits your individual needs.
When you see the button, as shown above, simply click on the button and you will be taken to a webpage full of coding. This code is what the Aggregator actually reads. If you only see a blank page, don't worry. The part you need to retrieve is the feed address, which will show in the address bar of your browser.
Simply highlight the address, right-click the highlighted address, then click copy and then paste into your aggregator when asked to do so.
