GENESIS

Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Gen 3:16  Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.  There is great physical pain when a woman gives birth to a child, as a result of Eve’s sin!  It was at this point, that God established the headship of man over woman.    It was necessary after there was sin in the world, in order to better maintain peace and order in homes.

EXODUS

Exd 22:16 And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.   Fornication is sin, and should be corrected by having the two involved ones get married.  But in modern times, where there is no laws forcing such people to get married,  it is a bit different.   If one is unwilling to get married in this case, they are in the wrong, but must be allowed to reject  going ahead with the marriage, as is the case in which an unbeliever is allowed to leave a marriage if he is not willing to stay in a marriage, or is not willing to be faithful to the marriage if married.  1Cr 7:15

The only one rejecting marriage in such a case, should be an unbeliever, if anyone.  

Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination. Homosexuality is a great sin., greater than other sexual sins.

Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.

DEUTERONOMY

Deu 4:9  Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; As it says in James, “faith without works is dead.”   So be careful to see to it that  you put your faith well to action, and it will not only keep yourself secure in the Lord, but enable you to be a better example to your children and others, too.    And be careful to remember to teach your children  spiritual truths, regularly.

Deu 5:10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.  Love is shown to God through obedience to Him.   Similarly, a prime way of showing love to ones husband, is to obey Him  well.

Deu 6:7  And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.  You should be in the practice of frequently talking to your children about spiritual things and teaching them about them, in  your every day living.

Deu 10:18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.  God loves all people and has no biases, except for what pertains to ones heart conditions.

Deu 14:29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless , and the widow, which [are] within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest. God blesses those who are kind to needy people such as these mentioned.

Deu 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so [are] abomination unto the LORD thy God.  God wants women to look feminine, and for men to look masculine.   It is a sin not to do so.

Deu 20:7 And what man [is there] that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

Deu 22:10Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.  A believer shouldn’t marry an unbeliever, as they aren’t agreed in life purposes.   There would be hampering interference.  See 2Cr 6:14

Deu 22:23 If a damsel [that is] a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; (both consenting in the fornication)

Deu 22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, [being] in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.  Under the New Covenant, such crimes are no longer to be punished with death.    But those guilty of the sin are to be put out of the church, until or unless they repent.  

 Deu 22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:   Rape
Deu 22:26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; [there is] in the damsel no sin [worthy] of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so [is] this matter:

Deu 22:28 If a man find a damsel [that is] a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

Deu 22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty [shekels] of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. 

Deu 23:1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

Deu 23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.  A bastard is a child born outside of marriage.   This was a law of the Old Testament Covenant.   It wasn’t that God doesn’t love bastards.   He made this law to make plain to people how much he disapproved of fornication, and to discourage people from committing this sin.

Deu 24:5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: [but] he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken. 

Deu 22:27For he found her in the field, [and] the betrothed damsel cried, and [there was] none to save her.

The law is no longer handled by general population, in most  places.   Nowadays, the thing to do is to try to get the rapist punished by taking the case to court.  Rape can happen to both married or unmarried women.    Neither are required to marry the rapist, as rape is a crime done to an unwilling victim.

Deu 22:28 If a man find a damsel [that is] a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;    (both consenting in the fornication)   

Deu 22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty [shekels] of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.   Nowadays, our laws won’t force such people to marry.   So the matter must be handled somewhat differently.   They should not proceed to marry, unless both are willing to marry lawfully, and to remain married and be faithful in marriage.   It does no good if one is willing to marry, but not the other, since today’s laws don’t force anyone to marry or to remain married.    In any case, fornication  is sin and should be stopped.   They must be both committed to living together as man and wife if they are to continue sexual relations.    And they must get legally married right away.  God considers people who are having sexual relations as being married.    And so it is not right for them to separate, unless one is unwilling to commit himself or herself to getting legally married and being faithful in marriage.   In which case, the willing one must terminate the relationship because of the unwillingness of the unwilling one.   

JUDGES

Jud 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

PSALMS

Psa 103:17  But the mercy of the LORD [is] from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;  The good rewards of ones righteousness  follow for seceding generations.

Psa 115:14  The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.

Psa 127:3  Lo, children [are] an heritage of the LORD: [and] the fruit of the womb [is his] reward.

Psa 127:4  As arrows [are] in the hand of a mighty man; so [are] children of the youth.

Psa 128:3  Thy wife [shall be] as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

PROVERBS

Pro 5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

Pro 6:29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

Pro 11:16  A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong [men] retain riches.

Pro 12:4  A virtuous woman [is] a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed [is] as rottenness in his bones.

Pro 14:1  Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Pro 13:22  A good [man] leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner [is] laid up for the just.

Pro 14:26  In the fear of the LORD [is] strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Pro 17:6  Children's children [are] the crown of old men; and the glory of children [are] their fathers.  Children, when  well trained up in the ways of the Lord, are often a cause for joy and honor,  to their parents.

Pro 18:22 [Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Pro 19:13 A foolish son [is] the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife [are] a continual

dropping.

Pro 19:14 House and riches [are] the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife [is] from the LORD.

Pro 20:7  The just [man] walketh in his integrity: his children [are] blessed after him.

Pro 20:11  Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work [be] pure, and whether [it be] right.  It can be seen by others,  about  whether a child is well-behaved or not.

Pro 21:9  [It is] better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.  Nagging  and arguing isn’t good!  Reasoning with others  is fine, as the apostles did it.   But when it becomes unkind in attitude, the way arguments do,  it isn’t a good  thing.

Pro 21:19  [It is] better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman. Such a woman is insubmissive to her husband and is rejecting him as head of the home!

Pro 22:6  Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.  A child, well trained in the ways of the Lord, and sufficiently protected from sinful influences, is most likely to continue on in the Lord’s ways,  even after he or she gets old.

Pro 22:15  Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.  “The rod of correction”  can be thought of as being like a shepherd’s staff, in the control and discipline of his sheep.   I’ve heard the shepherd would use the rod for guidance of his sheep.

Pro 23:13  Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.  Spankings can be a useful tool for helping to teach children to obey.  At least, while they are younger children.   Later, it is thought that other methods may be better in some cases, for the older children.    Whenever you spank children, remember to also reaffirm your love for them, so that they aren’t overly taken up with the harsh aspect of the spanking.

Pro 23:24  The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

Pro 27:15  A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.  A woman like that destroys  the peace of the home by her talk,  and is being like acid rain, rather than a healthful rain!

Pro 29:15  The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.  A child who is not disciplined, but allowed to “do anything he or she pleases”,  will most likely grow up to be a person who is poorly behaved, and not of good character.

Pro 31:28  Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her.

ECCLESIASTES

Ecc 4:13  Better [is] a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.  It is better to be teachable, by being open to learning new things, than to be so self-confident, that one is no longer able to learn anything new or be corrected in anything.

Ecc 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that [is] thy portion in [this] life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.  Having a wife, is one of the most pleasurable, satisfying things there are in life to be enjoyed.    It is a blessing from God.

SONG OF SOLOMON

Sgs 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love [is] better than wine.

Sgs 1:15 Behold, thou [art] fair, my love; behold, thou [art] fair; thou [hast] doves' eyes.

Sgs 2:2 As the lily among thorns, so [is] my love among the daughters.

Sgs 2:4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me [was] love.  A husband provides food for his wife, and it is one  way to show his love for her.

Sgs 2:7 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake [my] love, till he please.

Sgs 2:10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Sgs 3:5 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake [my] love, till he please.  A loving wife is intimately concerned about her  husband’s well  being and comfort.

Sgs 4:1 Behold, thou [art] fair, my love ; behold, thou [art] fair; thou [hast] doves' eyes within thy locks: thy hair [is] as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead. A loving husband enjoys and appreciates his wife’s beauty, and shows his appreciation of it to her.

Sgs 4:7 Thou [art] all fair, my love; [there is] no spot in thee.   A loving husband is able to uncritically admire and appreciate a loving wife, and to save his romantic feelings only for her and no other.

Sgs 4:10 How fair is thy love, my sister, [my] spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! A loving husband likes to flatter his wife by saying loving things to her about herself.

Sgs 5:2 I sleep, but my heart waketh: [it is] the voice of my beloved that knocketh, [saying], Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, [and] my locks with the drops of the night. 

Sgs 5:8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I [am] sick of love. This Old English!   He is not sick of love - what he means is that feels so full of love that he feels ready to burst with it!

Sgs 7:6 How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!

Sgs 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love [is] strong as death; jealousy [is] cruel as the grave: the coals thereof [are] coals of fire, [which hath a] most vehement flame. It is important to true to ones  marriage vows, and a crime  and great sin to do otherwise.  In addition, breaking ones vows by unfaithfulness in marriage, is sure to create great jealousy and upset in the other mate.

Sgs 8:7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if [a] man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. Love that is kept strong, can’t be reduced.    So having strong commitment towards the marriage relationship and ones spouse ensures the permanence of the marriage relationship.

MATTHEW

 

Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Mat 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  Good advice for the husband /wife  relationship, too!  Because one or the other sometimes don’t have good moods, and sometimes  doesn’t act as kind as one should have.

Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? We are to be kind and loving towards all people.   We are not to withhold our love from  anyone.

Mat 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Mat 19:13  Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put [his] hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.  Take time to meet the needs of children - they are important!    Don’t be like the disciples were here, and think that “you don’t have time” for them!

Mat 19:14  But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.  Children are easily taught and trained by others.    That is why it is important to train them well in the ways of the Lord while they are young.   Childhood is the most likely time for ones to become converted to Christ.  It is during their childhood and before they leave home  and/or get married.    If not converted some time during childhood, it tends to be much less likely that they will ever get converted, as people tend to get more set in their ways, the older they get.   Though of course, some do get converted in the later part of their lives.     But not in as large of numbers as those who were converted in childhood.

Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  Love is to be shown to ones parents by honoring them, and love is to shown to others by being as accepting of them as you are of yourselves.   If there is sin in others, we of course, must always hate that, though.

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. God wants our highest devotion and expects  to be given our best.   That is how to love Him.  And a husband or wife wants the same of each other, too!

Mat 22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.   In the end times, many will fall away from  their secure relationships  with Christ, due to the pull of the great surrounding wickedness there will be in the world.    Willful disobedience is what causes ones to fall away from Christ.    But it doesn’t happen to those who have a proper fear of God instilled into them, and to those who have made a lasting commitment to remain with Him.   Having a proper fear of disobeying God helps keep ones from falling away from him.   But some allow themselves to lose this fear and so become careless, and in this way, can end up falling away. 

            Speaking of marriage, there is no danger of separation occurring, if ones keep their relationships with Christ at it’s best.    Putting Christ first in ones lives, prevents this danger, as well as the danger of falling away from Him through breaking up ones marriage, etc.

MARK

Mar 10:13  And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and [his] disciples rebuked those that brought [them].  Do not be as the disciples were in this matter!    See that it is important to meet children’s needs, too!

Mar 10:14  But when Jesus saw [it], he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.  Children are easy to teach!   This is a reason why it is important to teach ones children well about God  during their childhoods, and to train them up well.  

Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment.   In similar way, a husband’s and wife’s love for each other is to be well solid, and well put to practice.

Mar 12:31 And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.   We are to treat others as kindly as we treat ourselves.    The same is to be true in  mates in  their marriage.

Mar 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love [his] neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.   To love others as one ought, is showing more love to God than  most other ways.

LUKE

Luk 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

Luk 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

Luk 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and [to] the evil.  We are to love all people, even unkind people.   To do so is to be Christ-like. 

Luk 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

Luk 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Luk 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.   Love of God must be wholehearted and show itself to be wholehearted by obeying in all things and neglecting  nothing.

Luk 18:16  But Jesus called them [unto him], and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.  Those who become converted to Christ, are enabled to do so, by becoming like children, in that they become easily taught, and are open to learning more.    They don’t see themselves as “knowing everything,” but instead see a need to be taught and are well accepting of teaching  that God gives them.

JOHN

Jhn 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.   Jesus said the Pharisees didn’t know Him, because they  had never chosen to be wholeheartedly obedient to Him.  No one is ready for marriage until…

Jhn 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.  God had not been their Father, because they never had wholeheartedly chosen to obey God.    This lack of obedient attitude is what prevented them from recognizing Jesus, too.   A man can’t , in sincerity, accept a lady as wife till he accepts her as a friend and commits himself to marrying her and taking on all responsibilities entailed in that.  Nor can a lady accept a man as her husband, till she has reached this point with the man with whom she is friends.

Jhn 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. The Father accepted Jesus , because He was in  wholehearted obedience to the Father in what He  was willing to do in dying on the cross for the world’s sins.

Jhn 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.    Not a new commandment, as it was also in the 10 Commandments.     Not new, except that it was new in that they now had Jesus’ example to go by, in loving others.    Which should make ones even more diligent to obey this Commandment.

Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Love for God is shown  through obedience of His commandments.

Jhn 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Jhn 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.   Those who are willing to commit their lives to God through doing what He requires,  to the best of their ability, are the ones who God feels ready to adopt as His children.   A similar agreement must be made when a man and woman make plans to marry.

Jhn 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.   When a sincere bond of love is formed between God and man, it is kept strong, by purposeful continuance of that bond.  The same thing about love is true in marriage, too!

Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Jhn 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Jhn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  

Jhn 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

ACTS

Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and [from] fornication, and [from] things strangled, and [from] blood.

 

Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Act 21:9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.  Phillip’s daughters were active in the ministry of prophesying.   We know this couldn’t mean that they did it in public, as Paul and some scriptures forbid that.   So they must have done prophesying in personal friendships, not in public  with men in the audience.

Act 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written [and] concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from [things] offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

 

ROMANS

Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. The presence of Jesus in our lives is what fills us full of God’s love.  A  committed couple is filled with love for each other before marriage.   They have a close relationship with each other.   And communicate regularly with each other.  That commitment is what forms the bond between the two of them.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.   Love doesn’t wait for response to act.    It takes the initiative to show itself.    And that is what God did.   He is the source of love, and no one loves us so much as He does! 

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.   God is in control of those who show their love to Him through their obedience.   So everything in their lives work together for a good purpose.

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Nothing will separate us from God’s love, as long as we remain true to our commitment  to obey Him  wholeheartedly with our lives.    Just as in wedding vows, the ones being married state that they will remain as man and wife, regardless of what hardships might be experienced, such as sickness, etc.

Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Rom 10:10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  This verse has nothing to do with the subject of marriage, as there is no mention of marriage in this verse.   However, I happened upon this verse, and thought I would use the verse as a parallel to demonstrate the building of a relationship between a man an woman, that leads to marriage.   There is good reason the forming of such a relationship resembles the forming of the biblical terms of relationships of adoption and of marriage.  God’s Word uses these parallels a number of times, to demonstrate the formation of a person’s relationship with God, when they become converted.    This verse is of course talking about the formation of this kind of relationship with God.   To re-word this verse a bit, to make it sound like the formation of a marriage relationship, let us word it this way, to get the affect of the sound of it:  “For  with the heart, a man and woman decide they would like to get married, and with the mouth confession is made, of plans to get married.”   It reminds one that a commitment to Christ is pre-planned, the same way marriages are.    Ones are not to wait till after marriage to commit themselves to each other, but arrive at that commitment ahead of time.    This is not just a commitment to get married, but to agree  beforehand, to fill out the responsibilities of marriage  as soon as  the marriage takes place.   To wait till afterwards, is precarious.

Rom 12:9 [Let] love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.   We are not to be kind to some, but uncaring to others - we are to treat all people with the same kindness.     Rather than being motivated by favoritisms, we should be motivated by a desire to do what is good and pleasing to God in our daily living.

Rom 12:10 [Be] kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; We are to treat others with the same kindness as ourselves.  That is good advice for married people, too!

Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] the fulfilling of the law.

Rom 15:30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in [your] prayers to God for me; God’s love in us is to cause us to have genuine love and concern for others.   And one way to show this concern, is through praying for others.

I CORINTIHIANS

1Cr 5:1 It is reported commonly [that there is] fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

1Cr 5:2   And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.  

                1Cr 5:3   For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, [concerning] him that hath so done this deed,    

                1Cr 5:4   In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,   

                1Cr 5:5   To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.   

                1Cr 5:6   Your glorying [is] not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?      

                1Cr 5:7   Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

                1Cr 5:8   Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth.      

                1Cr 5:9   I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

                1Cr 5:10                Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.        

                1Cr 5:11                But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.              

                1Cr 5:12                For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?    

                1Cr 5:13                But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.      

 

1Cr 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

1Cr 6:13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body [is] not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

1Cr 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1Cr 7:2 Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

1Cr 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

1Cr 7:1  Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman. If a man doesn’t feel a need for marriage, he doesn’t need to marry.   Instead, he should devote more of his time then to being of service to God , being unhampered by marriage to a wife.

1Cr 7:2 Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.   Marriage is  the good, honorable way to satisy sexual needs. Marriage prevents fornication, because it meets ones sexual, etc.  needs, and in an  approvable way.

1Cr 7:3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

1Cr 7:4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

1Cr 7:10 And unto the married I command, [yet] not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from [her] husband: Divorce is strictly forbidden, except for when one  has  committed adultery.

1Cr 7:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to [her] husband: and let not the husband put away [his] wife.

1Cr 7:12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.   It is forbidden that a Christian marry an unbeliever.    But if he does, he or she must remain married, as divorce is strictly forbidden, except on the grounds of fornication.    The Christian spouse, in such a situation, may influence her unbelieving spouse to become a Christian.

1Cr 7:13  And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.  God hates divorce, so it is not allowed.    And a wife , by her Christian behavior, might help influence her husband to become a Christian eventually, too.

1Cr 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

1Cr 7:16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save [thy] husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save [thy] wife?

1Cr 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.  Do not remarry unless you feel sufficient need to do so.      It is not wrong to remarry.    And for many, it is necessary.   For two possible reasons: (1) Still feel a need for marriage relationship  (2) One has children , and children are better off having two parents, as that is how God made them to be like.

1Cr 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

1Cr 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time [is] short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; Marriage is something many of us  need, and it is a beautiful thing.    But  we must be careful not to idolize marriage or anything else in life, above God.    God should always be first  and most important of all in our lives.

1Cr 7:33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please [his] wife.  A person who is married has less time to devote towards doing services for God, as  more time and energy must be spent in meeting the needs of the household.

1Cr 7:34 There is difference [also] between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please [her] husband.

1Cr 7:36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of [her] age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

1Cr 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

1Cr 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

1Cr 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.   Love of God is the deciding factor that determines whether a person knows God or not.    And love of God is proven through wholehearted obedience to Him.  Similarly, if a man and woman lvo

1Cr 11:3  But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.  “Head” means “the top authority”.     Man is under Christ, and Man is head of his home, which means he makes the rules of his household.    The married  woman is below (not inferior though) her husband, as she is to be subject to her husband.   Her husband is “her head.”    However, I’ll say that if a husband asks his wife to sin, this is one case where she must obey God, rather than man.     We must do the same as  in regards to the laws of our countries.   We must obey them  unless they ask us to disobey God.

1Cr 11:5  But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.  Back in the time this was written, married women were to wear veils to show that they were under authority of their husbands.     This is no longer a practice in all areas of the world.     But it still remains true that a married woman must treat her husband as head of her home, by being well obedient to him.    Failure to do so is  the same as not accepting the headship God has commanded that she should have over her.     Failure to be obedient to ones  husband is like taking over the headship of a man, and so I think this is why it pictures such a one as having short hair like a man.

1Cr 11:6  For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.    

1Cr 11:7  For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.   A man shouldn’t  willingly allow a wife to act as head of his home.     He should keep Christ as his “top boss” over him.    A beautiful thing about the man is that he is a person of authority over others in his home.    This beauty is resembling of the beauty of God’s  authority over man.      The woman’s beauty is through her submission to the authority  above her, which is her husband.

1Cr 11:8  For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. God created the man first, because He wanted the man to rule over the woman.  He already had headship (in marriage) in his plan for mankind,  when He made the first human!

1Cr 11:9  Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

1Cr 11:10  For this cause ought the woman to have power on [her] head because of the angels.  I would guess this means that if a wife is not well obedient to her husband, this opens her up to the attack of evil forces.  (the evil angels).   It could also be said to be true that an unsubmissive wife prevents the help and aid of God’s angels from being in her life, too.

1Cr 11:11  Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.  Though man and woman are of equal value to God, they have separate functions  and are both needed.

1Cr 11:12  For as the woman [is] of the man, even so [is] the man also by the woman; but all things of God. Eve came from Adam.

1Cr 11:13  Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? It is not attractive when women show defiance against rightful authority over them.   In this time, the married woman’s subjection to her husband was to be shown outwardly, by her wearing a veil.  Failure to wear it, would have made her look as though she were unsubmissive to her husband.

1Cr 11:15  But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for [her] hair is given her for a covering..  Long hair is usually thought to be most feminine on women.   It is one example of the fact that a married woman needs an authority over her in the marriage setup.  

1Cr 13:11  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  While young, children are immature.  But when they grow up, they will show good  maturity,  if they have been well trained up in the ways of the Lord.  

1Cr 14:34  Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak;but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.   Women are not to teach in public at church - there weren’t any women priests, were there?!  Also, a woman is to not to speak things her husband forbids her to say in private conversations with others, as she must be in subjection to him at all times.

1Cr 14:35  And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.  As I said above, women shouldn’t say anything in church her husband doesn’t want her to say.  And she shouldn’t have a role of teaching men.   Also, sensitive subjects are what  a woman should discuss  at home, rather than at church, when her husband is with her at church.

 

II CORINTHIANS

2Cr 6:6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

2Cr 8:7 Therefore, as ye abound in every [thing, in] faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and [in] all diligence, and [in] your love to us, [see] that ye abound in this grace also.  Love that is demonstrated to others, is the most important  exterior proof of being a Christian.   Other virtues are to be cultivated as well, and the more they are cultivated, the more they are increased and make a person more Christ-like.

2Cr 8:8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.   Love reveals itself to be sincere, through putting itself to action.

2Cr 12:21 [And] lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and [that] I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.   Paul here, is speaking of ones who had turned away from God, in addition to others expected to turn away from God in his absence in the future.    The falling away is shown by the sins they are willing to commit, and are spoken of as sins they had originally turned away from when they had become God’s children.

GALATIANS

Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.   In Christ, we are set free to do as we please.    But we are not to use our new-found ability to choose, to choose to  sin.     We can only use this ability to choose, to do what is right, if we want to remain in Christ.

Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Love is the source of all of these virtues.    So all of these virtues  come as a result of first having love of God.

EPHESIANS

Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,  Love is the “glue” that cements  ones relationships with Christ.      Love is what makes ones relationship with Him  permanent.

Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; We are to condsecend to loving others - regardless of others‘ weaknesses, the same way as God has condescended to us  by loving us,  in spite of our imperfections.

Eph 4:14  That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;  Children are easily swayed by what they are taught, and they are more gullible to taking in errors of belief, if exposed to it.    They become more solid in their beliefs  when they get older and more mature.    This verse is telling us to become firm in our beliefs, so that we are no longer in danger of taking in serious errors of belief, as to the subject of salvation and to the maintenance of it, I believe.   That is the important thing to have clear understandi
