Do YOU Know The Lord?
A complete booklet by Ken Browder
Page One of Eight Pages
When I was a very young man, I was walking along a downtown sidewalk in my home town and was approached by another young man carrying a Bible.
"Do you know the Lord?" he asked me. I had to admit I didn't. At that time "the Lord" was one of the farthest things from my mind. The young man opened his Bible and read some scriptures to me. I can't remember what they were since it is so many years ago. He continued to "preach" to me (that's the only way I know how to describe it) and finally put his arm around my shoulders and began to pray. I was embarrassed, to say the least, but I remembered this incident years later when I was a route/delivery man for a bread company there in my home town.
I had approached a very clean mobile home with manicured lawns and a lot
of flowers everywhere. I was certain those folks could use some of the
bread and cakes that I had to sell. My knock on the door was answered by
an older woman who called her husband to the door when I told her why I
was there. They invited me inside and I sat down at the kitchen table
which was just beside the door. I explained again why I was there and
showed them the bread and some cakes I had in my basket. They smiled and
bought a loaf of bread and a coconut cake. I was then offered a cup of
coffee and a slice of the cake, which I tried to accept graciously. As
young as I was, I had yet to learn graciousness, but I did accept. I
can't remember ever turning down an offer of a free cup of coffee.
While I was eating the cake, drinking the coffee, and chatting with the
people, the man got up, went into the living room and came back with a
magazine which he placed on the table in front of me, saying, "Have
you ever seen this magazine before?" I had not, so I told him no I
hadn't seen it before. As I thought back over that incident many times
later, I sat there and read the magazine completely through without them
saying a word.
The name of the magazine was "The Plain Truth" and it began a
search and study into scriptures that changed my life! I had found THE
TRUE BREAD OF LIFE in God's Word, while I had been selling bread to
others.
For the first time in my life I began to truly "know the
Lord." I learned things that almost boggled my mind! I learned
things that caused me to rebel and push the Bible and the magazines
away, not wanting to accept what I was learning because it was so
different to what I had learned in the Baptist Church.
However, I kept returning to scripture and learning that a lot of things
I had been told about God were not true! This began years of study into
God's Word. Whenever I was read or told something about God, I would go
and get out my Bible and see if it was true.
This article is part of the results of those years of study. Years of
rejecting what man had taught me and accepting what God was teaching me
through His Holy Scriptures. My mind began to be opened as never before
and I was finally baptized into God's Church.
I won't say any more about that right now because I need to find out if
YOU KNOW THE LORD!
